Nomad studio’s first project Escale 01 started with an immersion into bask country in 2016.
As in many coastal areas, the rythm of this territory seems regulated by the ocean, by its tides, and even more by the surf practice. Facing this emerging culture, I leaded my investigations into the objects that made it came to life. Escale 01’s stools have been designed in regards to the aesthetics but above all to the structural properties of a surfboard. Working in collaboration with local shapers has been the occasion to push their research on new processes and materials developped to ride waves, through daily-use objects. While polystyrene falls from the workshop are used as the core of the stools seating surfaces, cork sheets are then applied using a vacuum process. The wooden structure is made out of local oak with a carpenter in the inland. Mixing cabinet making tradition with innovative surf shaping techniques, Escale 01’s furniture collection bring together two sides of a rich territory.

The project has been presented at the occasion of a personal exhibition, from the 25th May to 22nd June - 2018 at Galerie du Côté, Biarritz, FR.
